Chemo comes on Thursday

My dear friends and family,
I will admit I am anxious about receiving my first round of chemo on Thursday. The day will begin with a prayer service with staff and volunteers at our church at 9:00. The appointment at the cancer and hematology center begins at 9:30. My mom will be taking me to the appointment and staying with me until Randy arrives which should be around noon. We have been told to plan on being there for about 5 hours.
The verse I will hold close to me all day is one that many of you have suggested. It is Isiah 41: So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
What can you do to help? Pray. I would like to ask you to consider praying at a very specific time. However old you are, pray for that minute after the hour. So, for example, if you are 29, you could send up a little prayer (or a big one!) at 9:29, 10:29 and so on. If you are 59 or older, perhaps you could choose a time earlier in the hour. There are not likely to be too many one year olds taking on this challenge!
Specific Prayer Requests:
• A good night of sleep tonight
• No worries about school
• The port will be easy to access
• No allergic reactions
• Kylie and Keagan will be able to concentrate at school
• Give thanks for wonderful doctors and nurses!

I’ve been told I will have my hair for about two weeks after the first treatment. I have registered for some hats from a company called Headcovers Unlimited. If you are interested, you can follow the directions below.

  1. Hey Rob,

Will be praying for all of the above - I am guessing it will not be a ton of fun tomorrow but trust it will go as well as it can. Looks like you have a solid "plan" and the verse is indeed a good one. Maybe the girls can update the blog as to how everything goes or have mom give us a call. Will also be checking out the hats.

We are doing pretty OK. I actually go to the dermatologist today for my regular 6 month checkup to make sure nothing nasty is going on, and we have friends we met in Hamburg (who now live in Connecticut) coming in today for a couple days with their family - they have a winter break up there and the mom has a sister in Raleigh, so should be fun to catch up.

Anyway, we are all with you in spirit and will keep in touch.

    take care

  2. Dear Friend,

I've already started praying for you and your upcoming big day! I'll continue to help "pray you through" the rest of today and tomorrow. :) Another verse in my devotions this morning speaks volumes, Jeremiah 17:7 Blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence. May you and your family feel God's loving arms wrapped around you continually. Rememeber call anytime if you need anything!! You Go Girl!!!

    Love,
    Corla :)

  4. My prayers are with you tomorrow. I'll especially remember you the first and second minute of each hour. May you find the peace you did the day of your surgery. Thank you for the bracelett. It'll help me to remember to pray for you and others with cancer. Randy, the girls and other members of your family are also in our prayers.

  7. Robin,
I will certainly be praying for you and your family tomorrow. I was just at the cancer and hematology lab today (every Wed and Fri) and as anxious as I know you are be assured you are in good hands the nurses are wonderful, very thoughtful and caring. I remember my first day of chemo when I still couldn't understand how my life had suddenly gotten so out of control. My nurse told mee to look at the chemo as a "good" thing. Getting rid of the bad so your body can replace it with good and loosing your hair means the chemo is working. I know nothing seems "good" about this but you are moving forward in the right direction and God will be with you. Keaton is so happy you are back he will take you any day he can get you! God Bless!

  8. Hey Robin,
I was hoping to catch you after school today but missed. I will certainly be praying at minute 42! As scary as it might seem, welcome those warrior drugs into your system. Let them seek and destroy any rebel cells that may be entertaining evil plans ;) Soak it all in (no pun intended) and take good notes. These are chapters of your life's story.
    Much Love!!

  9. Hey BFF,
You are in my thoughts all day long and yes 1000 more grilled cheese! A prayer for each one went up(silent of course). You are one incredible women. Know that I am with you every step of the day,I will be wondering how the day is going for you. Remember, someday we will look back and say,"Remember when the chemo started, that seems like forever ago" and then we will go on with all the current stuff going on in our lives! What fun we have ahead of us!!! We are just getting started.Time to sign off, remember my typing signs off not my thoughts. All of you are in our prayers each day.

    We love you all
