Two Weeks to the Day

Exactly two weeks after the first chemo treatment, I put on a ball cap to go out and take a walk (in the sunshine!) and noticed that my head felt a little weird. As I was getting ready to shower, I ran my hands through my hair and sure enough, both hands had clumps of hair in them. I pulled a little from the back just to be sure. I cried. Keagan was home with me, so I went downstairs to tell her. She gives amazing hugs. She went with me to the hospital for my belly shot and then to the cancer center for a blood draw. After those appointments, we went to my hairdresser's house. She started shaving my head and then gave the razor to Keagan who finished the job. So, I am bald and will be putting all of the headcovers to good use! My wigs came in yesterday too, so I will go pick them up sometime today.

And then there is the blood clot issue. In my opinion, my hand and arm look and feel better, but clearly there is still a problem. When they drew blood yesterday, I wasn't even close to "therapeutic" from the coumadin. So, they upped the dosage and I have to have another draw today. I am getting a little concerned about whether or not they will be able to use the port next week for my second treatment.

Enjoy the sunshine while we have it!

  1. Up a little early for a vacation day????

I can't imagine how you feel but I'm glad for you that it happened on a day at home with one of your beautiful daughters to help support you and your wigs are there for you to fuss with. Please remember that many of us are praying constantly for you and your family.

  3. Dear Friend,

No matter how much you planned for this, I am quite sure it still hit like a ton of bricks! I, too, am glad you were home and had Keagan there for you! I'm also glad you planned ahead and have those awesome headcovers and wigs ready to go. You will no doubt make a great statement with your new look, Confident, positive, strong!!! Sorry things are not progressing quicker with the blood clot issue, though things can change quickly with modification in the dosage. That will be a specific focus in my prayers for you and your family!! I'll be in touch!

    Love,
    Corla :)

  5. Wow, so much going on for you! It's like you can plan on things, but when they actually happen, then that's a different story huh? Try to handle one event at a time-easy for me to say. You are in my thoughts everyday!
    Love you so much!!

  6. Robin,
Hang in there, before you know it this will all be just a memory(and believe it or not some of the memories will be amazing). Keeping you in my prayers and hoping that they get the blood clot problem taken care of. It won't be long you will be anticipating the new hair growing back and wondering if it will be darker, curlier, or straighter. Keeping smiling and let everyone take care of you.

  7. Hey Robin:

I cried when my hair fell out too. I am so glad Keagan was with you. Wear your "head gear" and wigs proudly. I always think of them as my badge of courage.

As for the blood clot, let me know if you need help tomorrow.

    Always praying for you!
